FMU Women Hoopsters end season ranked 20th

The Francis Marion University women’s basketball team is ranked 20th in the final 2010 USA Today ESPN Division II Top 25 poll.

This marks the second consecutive year the Patriot program has appeared in the season-ending poll.  Last season, Francis Marion was ranked 14th in the final poll.

Under the direction of third-year head coach Heather Macy, Francis Marion posted a 27-5 record, made an appearance in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament title game, and earned a third consecutive NCAA Tournament invitation.  The Patriots lost in the round of 32 to the eventual region champion.

The Patriots completed their non-conference slate 8-1 and posted a 16-2 conference mark.

After being unranked in the 2009-10 preseason poll, Francis Marion appeared in each of the 14 regular-season polls at 22nd, 18th, 17th, 17th, 15th, 18th, 17th, 17th, 15th, 15th, 19th, 18th, 17th, and 20th.  National champion Emporia State University tops the final poll, while three PBC schools appear in the rankings.

Francis Marion loses five seniors off this year’s roster, three of whom were starters.
