Patriot Women advance one spot in Top 25 poll

After sweeping three conference games last week, the Francis Marion University women's basketball team moved up one spot to 17th in this week's USA TODAY ESPN Division II Top 25 coaches' poll released on Tuesday (Jan. 19).

With no mid-week games, both the Francis Marion women and men will play host to Peach Belt Conference newcomer Flagler College on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 23). The women's game will tip-off at 1:30 p.m., followed by the men's contest at 3:30 p.m.

The Francis Marion women are 14-2 overall and 6-1 in the Peach Belt.  FMU is second in the Peach Belt's East Division, one game out of the lead.

After being unranked in the 2009-10 preseason poll, Francis Marion has appeared in each of the seven regular-season polls at 22nd, 18th, 17th, 17th, 15th, 18th, and now 17th.  Unbeaten Franklin Pierce University (15-0) retains the top spot in the poll for the third straight week.  Three PBC schools are in this week's poll and one is among the other schools receiving votes.

The Francis Marion men have identical records to the women's team: 14-2 overall, 6-1 in the PBC, and in second place in the East Division standings (a half-game out of the lead).
