WBCA's Pink Zone initiative raises over $1 million
The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced outstanding results from its 2010 WBCA Pink Zone® initiative. To date, the initiative has unified 1,809 teams and organizations through their participation in the 2010 breast cancer awareness campaign, held February 12-21. Francis Marion University hosted its Pink Zone game on Feb. 13 against Clayton State University.

Two Francis Marion University women’s basketball players recently earned post-season honors. Junior Shannon Singleton-Bates has been named to the first-team Daktronics All-Southeast Region squad and was named a finalist for the WBCA NCAA Division II State Farm Coaches’ All-America squad which will be announced in the coming weeks. Senior Nicole Mealing was named to the All-Tournament Team at the recent NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Tournament in Greenwood.

The Francis Marion University women's basketball team learned Sunday night that it has earned a third straight invitation to the NCAA Division II National Tournament, and that the Patriots will be the third seed in the Southeast Regional to be played in Greenwood, S.C., on Friday, Saturday, and Monday (March 12, 13, 15). The three-day regional will be hosted by Lander University in its 2,500-seast Finis Horne Arena.

Francis Marion University junior guard-forward Shannon Singleton-Bates has been named to the Peach Belt Conference’s preseason All-Conference women’s basketball team as selected by the league’s head coaches.

FMU to hold Youth Basketball Clinic, Nov. 2
The Francis Marion University women’s basketball team will hold a Youth Basketball Clinic for boys and girls, kindergarten through eighth grade, on Monday, Nov. 2. The camp is being held on a day when Florence School District One students are out of school because of parent-teacher conferences.

FMU to play in Carolina's Challenge in Myrtle Beach
Francis Marion University athletic officials have announced that the Patriot women’s basketball team will participate in the 2009 Carolina’s Challenge this December in the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. Francis Marion will play Bluefield (Va.) College at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 20. The University of North Carolina will meet the University of South Carolina at 3 p.m. and Coastal Carolina University will play Savannah State University in the nightcap at 5 p.m.

#17 Patriot Women survive quarterfinal test, 75-64
Senior forward Nicole Mealing scored a team-high 17 points and 17th-ranked and second-seeded Francis Marion University closed the game on a 14-4 run to defeat third-seeded USC Aiken 75-64, Tuesday evening (March 2) in the quarterfinals of the Peach Belt Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament.
