FMU Softball hosts Patriot Invitational Tournament
The Francis Marion University women's softball team will host its annual Patriot Invitational Tournament, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (March 12-14) at the Freedom Florence Recreational Complex. This year's field includes eight teams.
Daily admission will be free for ages 6-and-under, $4 for ages 7-to-12, and $6 for ages 13-and-up.
Francis Marion owns a 15-7 record and will play five games over the weekend. The Patriots will play St. Andrews Presbyterian College on Friday at 3 p.m. and Saint Leo University on Friday at 5 p.m. On Saturday, FMU will face Lenoir-Rhyne College at 1 p.m. and Alderson-Broaddus College at 3 p.m. The Patriots will face Queens University of Charlotte on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Sophomore center fielder Destinea Schneider leads the Patriots at the plate with a .400 average. Senior left fielder Jessica Birchmeier owns a .328 average with two home runs and a team-leading 18 runs batted in.
Senior left-hander Michaela Wolf (9-3) and junior righty Cea Knox (6-3) have logged the majority of the innings on the mound for FMU.
