FMU Women add outfielder
Francis Marion University softball coach Stacey Vallee has announced that sophomore outfielder Destinea Schneider of Jacksonville, Fla., has transferred to FMU and will play for the Patriots this spring.
Schneider, 5-6, is transferring from Tallahassee Community College where she played one season.
In 2009, she batted .268 in 48 games with 36 runs scored and four runs batted in. She had a .328 on-base percentage and was successful on 21 of 27 stolen base attempts as the Eagles posted a 32-21 record.
She is a graduate of Edwards White High School, where she played for coach Josh Swearingen. Prior to moving to Jacksonville, she was a three-time All-Region player at Greenway (Ariz.) High School.
Schneider will join 10 other newcomers for the 2010 season. Francis Marion finished the 2009 season with a 32-19 record, and narrowly missed earning an at-large bid to the NCAA Division II National Tournament. The Patriots open their 2010 season on Feb. 6-7 at the Early Bird Tournament in Aiken, S.C.
