#9 FMU and UNCP split PBC softball twinbill

PEMBROKE, NC - Senior first baseman Tamela Bell collected three hits to lead a 14-hit Patriot attack as ninth-ranked Francis Marion University pounded out a 13-7 game-two win over UNC Pembroke on Wednesday evening (March 11) to salvage a split of their Peach Belt Conference doubleheader.  UNCP took advantage of three FMU errors in the opener to claim a 3-2 victory.

Francis Marion is now 19-6 overall and 3-3 in the PBC, while UNCP is 14-16 and 5-3.

FMU will host 18th-ranked Lenoir-Rhyne College for a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Junior left-hander Michaela Wolf (11-4) pitched both games for FMU.  All three of the runs she surrendered in the opener were unearned.  She drove in the two Patriot runs in game one with a first-inning single to right and a fifth-inning ground out to second base.

Bell was 3-for-5 in game two with a double, a run scored, and two RBIs.  Shannan Tyson, Lakyn Bendle, Ashley Jaramillo, and Wolf all had two hits. Jaramillo, a freshman second baseman, also scored twice and drove in three.

FMU broke open a one-run game (6-5) in the top of the seventh inning by sending 11 batters to the plate and scoring seven times.
