FMU Men 2nd, Women 5th at Blue Hose Invite
CLINTON, SC - A second-place finish by senior Hillary Kiprop helped the Francis Marion University men's cross country team to a second-place finish at Presbyterian College's Blue Hose Invitational, Friday afternoon (Oct. 2). Led by senior Amanda Doyle's seventh-place finish the Patriot Women placed fifth.
The FMU men trailed only Savannah College of Art & Design in the team standings and outdistanced the Division I hosts.
Kiprop completed the 8,000-meter course in a time of 27:55. Freshman Justin Albertson placed eighth in 29:10, while junior Jerry Roth finished 13th in 29:46.position, Junior Ben Miller occupied 18th position (31:30), freshman Ian Wallace was 24th (34:08), and sophomore Justin Trigg was 26th (34:45).
Doyle finished the 5,000-meter women's race in a time of 21:09. She was followed by sophomore Samantha Smith in 20th position with a time of 23:55, freshman Sierra Young in 28th (25:55), senior Amanda Booker in 31st (27:21) and freshman Madeline Reed in 39th (36:13).
SCAD also won the women's team title.
Both Francis Marion teams will compete in the South Carolina Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Oct. 10, in Greenville.
