Former Patriot Dujuan Harbin dies

Former Francis Marion University cross country runner Dujuan Harbin, 43, passed away on December 20, 2009, at the Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home in Anderson, S.C. 

Harbin earned a B.S. degree from Francis Marion in 1990.  He was a four-year member of the Patriot cross country squad, helping lead FMU to the 1988 NAIA District Six championship and second-place finishes in 1985, 1986, and 1989.

His best finish at the district championships was a ninth-place showing (29:25 over an 8,000-meter course) in 1989.  He finished 254th at the 1988 NAIA National Championships in Kenosha, Wis., recording an 8,000-meter time of 28:17.  He placed 297th at the 1989 national meet.

After graduation, he was a staff sergeant in the United States Army Reserves with 18 years of service.

He was a two-time South Carolina High School League finalist in cross country at McDuffie High School. He also set the McDuffie school record in the 800 meters.
