FLORENCE, SC – The 29th-ranked Francis Marion University men's tennis team dropped a 5-1 decision to seventh-ranked Lander University, Thursday afternoon (April 17) in the quarterfinal round of the 2014 Peach Belt Conference Tennis Tournament.
FMU, seeded seventh in the tournament, falls to 7-8 and will return to the court later Thursday evening at 6 p.m. to face 42nd-ranked and sixth-seeded Flagler College. The tournament is being held at the Dr. Eddie Floyd Tennis Center.
Second-seeded Lander (16-3) advances to Friday's semifinal round at 9 a.m.
The Patriots' No.1 doubles team of junior Gavin Davison and freshman Richard Ashforth earned a 9-8 win, but FMU trailed 2-1 after doubles competition. The Bearcats finished the match with singles wins at spots No.1, No.2, and No.5.
