Patriot Netters upset Jaguars in 5th-place Match

FLORENCE, SC – Sixth-seeded and 27th-ranked Francis Marion University swept all three doubles matches and a pair of sophomores – Gavin Davison and Marius Wahlier – triumphed in singles action as the Patriots upset 14th-ranked and fifth-seeded Augusta State University, Saturday afternoon (April 13) in the fifth-place match at the 2013 Peach Belt Conference Men's Tennis Tournament at the Dr. Eddie Floyd Florence Tennis Center.

Francis Marion improves to 15-8 and will now wait to see if it receives an at-large bid to the NCAA Division II Tournament.  The Jaguars (12-11) had beaten the Patriots 7-2 two weeks ago in Augusta.

In doubles action, the 16th-ranked duo of senior Alex Caspari and Davison won 8-4 at the No.1 position, while sophomore Eimon Heywood and freshman Arnaud Holl won 8-5 at the No. 2 spot.  Wahlier and junior Tim Ruepke completed the sweep with a thrilling 9-8 victory at No. 3 doubles, which was decided by a 7-5 score in the tie-breaker.

Davidson won 7-6, (tie-breaker 7-5), 6-0 at No.2 singles, while Wahlier claimed an almost identical 7-5, 6-0 victory at the No.5 spot.
