FMU Men edge Pacers, Advance to 5th-place Match

FLORENCE, SC – Sixth-seeded and 27th-ranked Francis Marion University swept all three doubles matches and earned singles wins at the top and bottom of the ladder to claim a 5-3 victory over 30th-ranked and seventh-seeded USC Aiken, Saturday morning (April 13) in the elimination bracket of the 2013 Peach Belt Conference Men's Tennis Tournament at the Dr. Eddie Floyd Florence Tennis Center.

Francis Marion ups its record to 14-8 and will move on to meet 14th-ranked and fifth-seeded Augusta State University in the tournament's fifth-place match at 4 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.

Patriot senior Alex Caspari, playing with partner Gavin Davison, won 8-6 at No.1 doubles for his 50th career doubles win.  He followed that up with a three-set win (6-4, 3-6, 7-5) at No. 1 singles for his 52nd career victory.

Sophomore Marius Wahlier captured the other Patriot point in singles with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No.6 singles.

The FMU women are playing Columbus State in the semifinal round at noon on Saturday.
