Patriot Men fall to Cougars at PBC Tourney

FLORENCE, SC – Eighth-ranked and third-seeded Columbus State University took three hard-fought doubles wins and went on to claim a 5-0 victory over 27th-ranked and sixth-seeded Francis Marion University, Friday afternoon (April 12) in the quarterfinal round of the 2013 Peach Belt Conference Men's Tennis Tournament at the Dr. Eddie Floyd Florence Tennis Center.

Francis Marion falls to 13-8 and will move on to meet USC Aiken, a 5-0 loser to Lander University, on Saturday morning at 8 a.m.  The winner of that match will play in the fifth-place match later on Saturday.

FMU's nationally ranked doubles duo of senior Alex Caspari and sophomore Gavin Davison lost a narrow 8-6 decision at No.1 doubles, while the other two losses were by 8-4 and 8-3 counts.

Columbus State then captured straight-set singles wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions.

Rain on Friday afternoon affected the tournament schedule and changed Saturday's slate.  The FMU women are now scheduled to play Columbus State in the semifinal round at noon on Saturday.
