FMU's Sharifi named PBC Tennis Player of the Week

Francis Marion University sophomore Dilshod Sharifi has been selected as the Peach Belt Conference men's tennis "Player of the Week" for the week of March 24-30.

Sharifi, a native of Dushanbe, Tajikistan, posted a 2-0 mark in singles and earned a doubles win over the nation's fifth-ranked duo.

Playing in the No. 2 singles position, he beat the 11th-ranked singles player in the country, from Armstrong Atlantic State University, in a third-set tiebreaker, and then beat Anderson University's No. 2 player in three sets.

Sharifi and Oshada Wijemanne also beat Anderson's No. 1 doubles team 8-3, a duo that is ranked fifth nationally in Division II play.

For the season, Sharifi owns a 12-2 record in both singles and doubles play.  He has helped lead the Patriots to an 11-4 record and a No. 11 national ranking.
