FLORENCE, SC – The Francis Marion University women and men's soccer teams will compete in their first Peach Belt Conference home match of the campaign this Saturday (Sept. 30) against Clayton State University on Hartzler Field in the Griffin Athletic Complex.
The women's match will begin at 3 p.m. and the men will follow at 5:30 p.m. as FMU celebrates McLeod Children's Hospital Day during the two events.
Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for students, and FMU students are admitted free. The match will be streamed live online courtesy of the Patriot Sports Network.
The Patriot women (3-3-0, 0-2-0) are led by freshman defender Dayle McEwen as she has scored three goals (two of which have been game-winners) and tallied seven points. She is joined by freshmen Kylie McElroy and Megan Misuraca who have accounted for two goals each.
Junior goalkeeper Janine Gordon has compiled 16 saves while having a 1.78 goals against average in five starts, while sophomore Micahla Kitchen has played in three matches with a 1.83 GAA and 12 saves.
Freshman midfielder Ann-Cathrin Zabel leads CSU (2-5-0, 0-3-0) with three goals and one assist. Goalkeeper Jessica Charman has a 1.43 GAA with 53 saves in seven matches.
Heading up the FMU men's team (4-3-0, 0-2-0) is junior Levin Sandmann with six goals and a PBC-leading 14 points. Sophomore Jordan Dechere has scored three goals and senior Jevon Williams two. Patriot freshman goalkeeper Raul Guillamon Bejar owns a 2.200 GAA, while compiling 24 saves.
Sophomore Dean Foster tops the Lakers (4-4-0, 0-1-0) with six goals and 13 points. The goalkeeper for Clayton State, senior Oliver Pannell, has 25 saves and a 2.18 GAA.
Francis Marion leads the women's all-time series 8-4-1 and has outscored the Lakers 41-18. The Patriots also lead the men's all-time series 11-10-6, although the Lakers have outscored the Patriots 40-38.
