HARTSVILLE, SC – Francis Marion University picked up two first-half goals, by Harrison Smith and Oliver Drakenhammar, within a span of less than three minutes to claim a 2-1 win over Coker College, Saturday night (Sept. 16) in non-conference collegiate men's soccer action.

The Patriots (3-1-0) will be back on the field at the University of Mount Olive on Wednesday night (Sept. 20) with a start time of 7 p.m. The men's team will open up conference play on Sept. 23 on the road at the University of North Georgia.

Their next home match will be Sept. 30 against Clayton State University on Hartzler Field starting at 5:30 p.m.

The first goal of the contest came in the 24th minute when a ricocheted ball fell to Smith who put it into the goal making the score 1-0. At the 26:04 mark, the ball again bounced off a defender and Drakenhammer sent it into the back of the net. Both Smith and Drakenhammer's goals were their first of the season.

Six minutes later, Cobra Aladdin Alfares made his way down the sideline and passed it to the top of the box where junior Jacob Simonis shot it past Patriot freshman goalkeeper Raul Guillamon Bejar, cutting the score in half.

Bejar finished with one save.  Coker (1-3-0) outshot FMU 17-11, but was unable to convert an equalizing score.

Three yellow cards were handed out during the matchup: two to Coker (junior Quadarius Grate and freshman Connor Yost) and one to Francis Marion (freshman Adrian Merino).
