Patriot goalkeeper retains PBC weekly award

For the second straight week and third time in four weeks, Francis Marion University sophomore goalkeeper Clark Richeson has been selected as the Peach Belt Conference men's soccer "Goalkeeper of the Week," this time for the week ending Oct. 26.

Richeson allowed only two goals while facing 20 shots in two Patriot wins last week.

The Mansfield, Texas, native recorded one save in a 2-1 overtime win at USC Aiken, and then made six stops in a 2-1 overtime win at North Georgia College & State University.

He has lowered his season goals against average to 1.38, and has allowed only four scores in the past nine matches.

Richeson ranks second in the PBC in shutouts (4), third in total saves (63), and fourth in goals against average and save percentage (.733).

The 9-4-3 Patriots are unbeaten in their last 10 matches - eight wins and two ties - and are tied for the lead in the Peach Belt standings.

FMU played at Catawba College on Tuesday evening, and will play host to Lander University on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in match that will decide the PBC regular-season championship.

Richeson was an All-District and All-Region goalkeeper at Summit High School.
