Svanum 16th, Patriots 16th at Wolfpack Intercollegiate

RALEIGH, N.C. --- Francis Marion University placed 16th in the team standings and sophomore Kenneth Svanum shot a final-round 75 to finish tied for 16th in the individual standings on the final day of the Wolfpack Intercollegiate, hosted by North Carolina State University.

The 54-hole event was contested on the par 71, 7,358-yard Lonnie Poole Golf Course.

The host Wolfpack rallied from a three-stroke deficit entering Tuesday to claim the team title.  Monday’s leader Duke University finished four strokes back.  After rounds of 297 and 300 on Monday, Francis Marion carded a 309 team score on Tuesday. 

Svanum finished at two-over-par 69-71-75=215.  Other Patriot golfers included sophomore Sebastian Backlund (76-75-74=225) tied for 53rd position, sophomore Travis Gantt (75-77-80=232) tied for 77th, junior Kurt Slattery (77-77-80=234) tied for 81st, and junior Andrew Weir (80-80-80=240) in 87th position.  Backlund had the Patriots’ low round on Tuesday.

N.C. State's Albin Choi earned his first tournament win after shooting a 72 on Tuesday.  He edged Lee Bedford of Wake Forest University by one stroke.

Francis Marion will participate in the Big 5 Tournament, Saturday and Sunday in Philadelphia.
