FMU Golfers tied for 19th at Furman Intercollegiate

GREENVILLE, SC - Francis Marion University carded a 312 team score and is tied for 19th after Friday's opening round of the Furman University Intercollegiate Tournament.

The three-day, 54-hole tournament will continue on Saturday and Sunday at the Furman University Golf Course.

Clemson University and Chattanooga are tied for the team lead with 289 scores.  FMU is tied with Troy University and Temple University.

FMU senior Christopher Couch shot the low round of the day for the Patriots.  He stands in a group tied for 20th after shooting a 2-over-par 74.  Ciaran McKenna (78) is tied for 70th, while Sebastian Backlund and Kenneth Svanum are tied for 101st after carding rounds of 80 and Matt Jackson (83) is tied for 130th.  

Patriot freshman Travis Gantt is competing as an individual and he shot an 80 on Friday.

Western Carolina's Tanner Briele leads the individual standings after firing a 7-under 65 over the opening 18 holes.
