Patriots 18th after two rounds at Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate

AIKEN, S.C. - Francis Marion University carded rounds of 313 and 309 on Monday (March 8) at the 13th-annual Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate and the Patriots stand 18th heading into the final 18 holes.

The tournament is being contested on the historic par 70, 6,565-yard Palmetto Golf Club. 

Chattanooga finished the first two rounds of the tournament four strokes ahead of second-place Liberty University, while Furman University is third and Clemson University is fourth.

The Patriots were led by senior Matt Jackson, who shot rounds of 79 and 72 and is tied for 53rd position.  Other FMU golfers include freshman Kenneth Svanum (77-79=156), freshman Sebastian Backlund (78-79=157), sophomore Ciaran McKenna (79-83=162), and freshman Travis Gantt (83-79=162).

The University of Virginia's Ben Kohles is the overall individual leader through two rounds with a seven-under-par 133. Kohles posted an even-par 70 in the first round before firing a Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate record 63 in the second round.

The third and final round of the 54-hole event will begin at 9 a.m. on Tuesday (March 9).
