FMU Golfers tied for 11th at Hummingbird Intercollegiate
SAPPHIRE, N.C. - Francis Marion University shot a first-round 293 team score and is tied for 11th place, while the Kentucky Wildcats carded a 279 to occupy first place after the opening round of the Hummingbird Intercollegiate Golf Tournament hosted by Western Carolina at the par-71, 6,767-yard Country Club of Sapphire Valley.
FMU is only seven strokes out of third place in the 18-team
field. The Patriots are currently tied with Appalachian State
University and Radford University.
Ciaran McKenna and Kenneth Svanum led Francis Marion
with even-pars 71 on Monday and they are tied for 17th
position in the individual standings. Matt Jackson (75) is
tied for 61st place, while Christopher Couch (76) is tied for 75th
place and Michael Asay (80) is tied for 96th position.
Furman University's Garland Ferrell posted two eagles on the back nine to shoot four-under 67 on a beautiful fall afternoon Monday to take a one-stroke lead into Tuesday's second round.
The final 18 holes will begin with fixed tee times beginning at 9 am on the front nine and 9:05 am on the back.
