Patriots lead Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate

INDIVIDUAL RESULTS

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC -- Francis Marion University, led by sophomore Ciaran McKenna's 2-under-par 70, sits atop the team leader board following Monday's (Feb. 22) rain-shortened first day of the fifth-annual Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate Golf Tournament.

Monday's schedule was cut from two rounds to one due to heavy rain and lightning along the South Carolina coast. The final round will be played on Tuesday beginning at 8:30 a.m.  The tournament is being played on the par-72, 6,828-yard Wexford Plantation course.

Francis Marion carded a 1-over 289 team score on Monday and leads second-place Wake Forest University (293) by four strokes.  Following the host Patriots and Demon Deacons is     Davidson College at 296; Samford University and Wofford College at 297; USC Aiken, Ohio University, and De Paul University all at 299; and George Mason University, University of Texas-Pan American, and the University of Connecticut all at 301.  The field includes 17 teams.

McKenna was one of three golfers -- joining John Skeadas of Davidson and Ben Westley of De Paul -- to shoot 70 on Monday and occupy the individual lead after 18 holes.  He was also one of three Patriots to break par on Monday. Seniors Christopher Couch and Matt Jackson both shot 1-under 71 scores and are among a group of four golfers tied for fourth place.

Other Patriot golfers include Kenneth Svanum, who is tied for 47-place with a 5-over 77 tally, and Sebastian Backlund, who is in 85th position after an opening round 85.  FMU's Travis Gantt is competing as an individual and stands in 57th-place after shooting a 78.
