Gloverville golfer to join Francis Marion squad

Francis Marion University golf coach Mark Gaynor has announced the addition of Matt Jackson of Gloverville, S.C., to the Patriot program.  Jackson will have two years of eligibility beginning this fall after transferring from Spartanburg Methodist College.

Jackson, 6-0 160-pounds, played the past two seasons for coach Mark Perdue at SMC.

This past year, he carded a 75.1 stroke average, won three events, and posted eight Top 10 finishes in 12 tournaments.  He placed 19th at the NJCAA Division I District 5/Region X Championships as the Pioneers placed fifth out of 10 squads.

As a freshman, he recorded a 76.8 stroke average, won one tournament, and earned All-Region X honors.

Jackson was a two-time All-Region selection at Midland Valley High School, where he played for coach Marty Harper.  He was also named the Mustangs' most valuable player each of his last three years.

Francis Marion loses one senior from last season's 100-66 squad that completed the program's first year as a full-fledged NCAA Division I member.  That record included five Top 5 finishes and the team title at the First Market Bank Intercollegiate hosted by The College of William and Mary.
