Patriots’ Browning picked to pre-season All-PBC Team

Francis Marion University senior guard Detrek Browning has been selected to the 2018 pre-season Peach Belt Conference All-Conference squad, as voted on by the league coaches.  This year's team has six members because of a tie in the voting.

Joining Browning on the team is Nigel Grant and Brandon Watts, both of UNC Pembroke, JaCori Payne of Columbus State University, Ben Waterhouse of Young Harris College, Shaquan Cantrell of the University of North Georgia.

Last season, the 6-0 Columbia native earned post-season All-Conference accolades for the second consecutive year. Browning was third in the Peach Belt in scoring (19.6 ppg), first in minutes played (36.8 per contest), second in steals (58), fifth in assists (4.4 apg), 11th in free throw shooting percentage (83.0%), 15th in three-point percentage (38.8%), and 23rd in total field goal percentage (48.7%).

He also hauled down 4.5 rebounds per game, fourth-best on the Patriot squad.

Browning scored in double figures in 27 of 28 games, including 16 games of 20 or more points (and two 30-point outings).  By way of scoring or assisting, he accounted for more than 37 percent of the Patriots' scoring output.

Named the 2015 PBC Freshman of the Year, in only three seasons Browning has climbed to fourth on the program's career scoring list with 1,619 points, is tied for third in career assists (326), and is fourth in career steals (184). Named a PBC Player of the Week three times in his career, his point total is already 12th-highest in PBC history.

Francis Marion finished its 2016-17 campaign with an 11-17 record and tied for fifth in the PBC's East Division. The Patriots will open their 2017-18 season on Nov. 10 at 1 p.m. against Catawba College as part of the PBC/SAC Challenge in Pembroke, N.C.

Browning is a former All-State performer at Irmo High School.
