Francis Marion University men's basketball coach Gary Edwards has announced the signing of 6-8 forward Joshua Oliver of Jacksonville, Fla., to the Patriot program for 2017-18.
Oliver previously played two years at Indian River State College in Fort Pierce, Fla. This past season, he averaged 7.9 points and 4.5 rebounds per game for a 17-12 Pioneer squad. He connected on 59.0 percent of his field goal attempts and had a free throw percentage of 62.7. The Pioneers completed their season tied for third in the Southern Conference, and Oliver was named to the second-team All-Conference squad.
As a freshman, he averaged 6.7 points and 5.2 rebounds per game, while shooting 59.4 percent from the floor as IRSC went 17-13.
He is also a past recipient of the Pioneers Pride Award.
"Oliver will fill the void left by the three graduating post players," coach Edwards said. "He is a hard-working big body that brings an inside presence and will help in the rebounding area this coming season. His numbers as a sophomore were partially affected by the fact that he was hampered by an injury, so we are looking for even better figures in 2017-18."
Oliver is a product of The Potter's House Christian Academy in Jacksonville.
Francis Marion lost three seniors off last season's 11-17 team.
Oliver will join two recently signed players, 6-11 center Kingsley Nwagboso of Greater Manchester, England, and 6-0 guard Devante' Foster of Greenville, S.C., this upcoming season on the Patriot squad.
