Bike MS: Breakaway to the Beach
Members of the Francis Marion University men's basketball program recently assisted with the 2011 Bike MS: Breakaway to the Beach even, Sept. 24 on the FMU campus. The event was sponsored by the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. The two-day ride included an overnight stay on the Francis Marion campus.
Despite rain, members of the Patriot hoops squad assisted in making sure the Florence stop ran smoothly. “The men’s basketball team enjoyed helping out with this event in which riders rode from either Camden, S.C., or Monroe, N.C., to Sunset Beach, N.C.," said FMU assistant coach Jarron Hinton. "Each rider was responsible for raising money for the event as well. The squad assisted by placing over 2,000 orange flags in the ground representing those fighting the battle with MS. Despite the weather, team members were encouraging to the riders coming in and did a great job cheering them to the finish line.”
