Anderson and Boyd swarm over Yellow Jackets in 93-53 FMU win

FLORENCE, SC - Senior Kaylan Anderson and junior Simel Boyd scored 28 and 23 points respectively as Francis Marion University downed Allen University 93-53, Monday night (Nov. 30) in non-conference men's basketball action.

Francis Marion, playing only its second home contest of the season, improves to 6-1, while Allen drops to 3-7.

Anderson scored 16 of his points in the opening half and finished the game shooting 9-of-14 from the floor and 9-of-11 at the charity stripe.  Boyd tallied 15 of his total after intermission and ended with an 8-of-13 shooting night from the field and 7-of-9 at the free throw line.  Boyd also hauled down a game-high and season-high 14 rebounds.

Senior guard Kendrick Robinson added 13 points for the Patriots.

Sophomore forward Jeremy Crawford led Allen with 13 points and 11 rebounds, while junior guard Demetrice Terrell chipped in 12 points.

FMU entered the game shooting 55.2 percent at the foul line, but on Monday the Patriots drained 28-of-36 charity tosses.

The game remained close during the opening 10 minutes, and following a pair of free throws by Terrell with 10:28 on the clock, FMU led by only 24-19.  Anderson then contributed four points to a 9-0 Patriot spurt as FMU went up 33-19.  Francis Marion held a 39-26 lead at halftime.

The margin was 16 points at 58-42 with 10:46 remaining when FMU put together a 13-1 run to open a 71-43 advantage.  Anderson and Boyd had five points each in the surge.

The Patriots connected on 51.6 percent of their shots (16-of-31) over the final 20 minutes and finished the game shooting 48.3 percent.  Allen was held to 38.5 percent shooting.

FMU held a commanding 54-25 rebounding edge and led 22-6 in second-chance points.

Francis Marion will open its Peach Belt Conference schedule on Wednesday when the Patriots play host to USC Aiken at 7:30 p.m.  Allen plays at Brewton-Parker College on Saturday at 4 p.m.
