The Francis Marion University baseball team will host 20th-ranked University of Mount Olive on Tuesday (Feb. 6) at 2:30 p.m. on Cormell Field at Sparrow Stadium in the Griffin Athletic Complex.
Admission is $8 for adults, $5 for students, and FMU students will be admitted free with a valid ID.
The Patriots are coming off a 2-1 season-opening weekend, where they had wins over Conference Carolinas' members Barton College and Southern Wesleyan University. Senior designated hitter Tee DuBose has a .444 batting average (4-for-9) and drove in four runs during two games last weekend, while junior infielder Brody Thomasson went 4-for-10 and junior outfielder Gage Taylor led the team with five RBIs.
Junior right-handed pitcher Cole Hinnant is the probable starter for Tuesday's contest. During the 2017 campaign, Hinnant posted a 2-1 record with six saves and a 2.30 earned run average in 31.1 innings pitched. He was recently named to the pre-season All-Peach Belt Conference team and the NCBWA pre-season All-Southeast Region squad.
The 2-1 Trojan squad, ranked 20th in the Collegiate Baseball pre-season poll and seventh in the NCBWA national standings, is led by junior JT Stone, who had six hits in 14 at bats (.429), while compiling two homers and 11 RBIs in a season-opening series (Feb. 2-3) against Lander University.
FMU will open Peach Belt Conference play this coming weekend (Feb. 9-11) with the Pepsi Pop-Off Series against Augusta University. The series will consist of single games on Friday at 6 p.m., Saturday (Homecoming) at 2 p.m., and Sunday at 1 p.m.
