FMU Baseball season opener pushed back to Sunday
With the threat of precipitation on Saturday and with both squads having an open date on the following day, the Francis Marion University 2011 baseball season opener has been pushed back one day to Sunday (Feb. 6). The Patriots will face King College in a doubleheader at noon on Cormell Field.
Admission is $6 for adults and $4 for students with FMU students being admitted free with a valid identification card.
Francis Marion, ranked 15th and ninth in two preseason NCAA Division II national polls, returns 13 lettermen (including four position starters and eight members of the pitching staff) from last year’s 40-14 squad that made a second straight appearance in the NCAA Division II National Tournament – where the Patriots hosted the Southeast Regional.
King College is coached by former Patriot assistant Mac McClarrinon. The Tornado were 29-16 last season, won the NCCAA Mid-East Region championship, and played in the NCCAA Division I World Series.
Following Sunday’s twinbill, FMU will play host to Newberry College on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
