Former FMU southpaw promoted to Reds' AAA affiliate
Former Francis Marion University left-handed pitcher Lee Tabor was promoted on Saturday (Aug. 1) to the Cincinnati Reds AAA affiliate in Louisville. The Manning native becomes the first FMU baseball player to reach the AAA level.

More, More, More All-Region honors for FMU baseball
Three members of the Francis Marion University baseball team senior catcher Jared Barkdoll, junior shortstop Barrett Kleinknecht, and junior right-handed relief pitcher Brandon Forshee have been named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) All-Southeast Region Team. It is the third regional award of the summer for both Barkdoll and Kleinknecht.

FMU schedules summer Baseball Camp 2009
Francis Marion University has announced two sessions of its Baseball Camp 2009, an opportunity for young athletes to develop and polish their diamond skills. The annual camp, for children ages 7-12, will be held June 22-26 and July 6-10 from 9 a.m. until noon each day.

Francis Marion University athletic officials recently announced that former baseball outfielder Anthony Chico Lombardo is the newest inductee into the FMU Athletic Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony will take place during Homecoming activities on Saturday, Feb. 14.

Patriots and Blazers split season-opening baseball twinbill
Francis Marion University rallied from an early 6-1 deficit to win game one of Sundays (Feb. 1) season-opening baseball doubleheader 11-7, while Valdosta State University cruised to a 9-0 victory in game two.

FMU Baseball opens 37th season at "The Cliff" on Sunday
The Francis Marion University baseball team, ranked 33rd in the preseason Collegiate Baseball Magazine NCAA II Top 40 poll, will open its 2009 season on Sunday afternoon (Feb. 1) when the Patriots host 21st-ranked Valdosta State University for a doubleheader. The twinbill will begin at 1 p.m. on Cormell Field.

The Peach Belt Conference has announced the 2009 preseason baseball and softball All-Conference teams from the league office in Augusta. Francis Marion University placed a pair of players on the baseball squad and three on the softball team.

Former FMU baseball player dies (Derrick Bryan Roadcap)
Former Francis Marion University baseball player Derrick Roadcap, 35, died recently (Aug. 18) of a brain tumor. A native of Spring Glen, Pa., Roadcap was a catcher on four Patriot squads from 1991 to 1994.

FMU's Owen and Greene promoted in Baseball Minors
Former Francis Marion University right-handed pitcher Dylan Owen has been promoted to the New York Mets AA affiliate Binghamton Mets, while former Patriot outfielder Justin Greene recently moved from the Chicago White Soxs rookie league team to the Class A Kannapolis Intimidators.

Patriot baseball team adds junior college transfers
Francis Marion University baseball coach Art Inabinet has announced the addition of seven junior college transfers to the Patriot roster for the 2009 season. This list consisted of middle infielder Joshua Biggers of Southlake, Texas, utility player John Floyd of Spartanburg, right-handed pitcher Brandon Forshee of Jacksonville, Fla., left-handed pitcher Shane Gebhards of New Berlin, Ill., outfielder Martin Gordon of Phoenix, Ariz., utility player Colby Green of Montevallo, Ala., and outfielder Matt ORourke of Saratoga Springs, N.Y. All seven players will have two years of eligibility at FMU.
