Former FMU baseball player dies (Derrick Bryan Roadcap)

MILLERSBURG, PA - Former Francis Marion University baseball player Derrick Roadcap, 35, died recently (Aug. 18) of a brain tumor.

A native of Spring Glen, Pa., Roadcap was a catcher on four Patriot squads from 1991 to 1994.  He batted .300 in 133 career games with 58 runs scored, 32 doubles, seven home runs, and 80 runs batted in.  With a school-record 118 career walks, he also owned an on-base percentage of .465 for his four seasons.  From behind the plate, he threw out 45 of 155 runners attempting to steal.

He was named to the 1994 Peach Belt Conference All-Conference team and to the 1992 Palmetto State Conference All-Conference squad.  He was also named FMU's most valuable player as a senior in 1994 after hitting .377 with a .500 on-base percentage.

Roadcap earned the B.S. degree in political science in 1994.

At the time of his death, he was an instructor of juvenile rehabilitation for Cornell-Abraxis in Harrisburg, Pa.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday (Aug. 23) at Simeon United Lutheran Church in Gratz, Pa.
