Patriot Student-Athletes receive academic awards
Three Francis Marion University student-athletes were among
those honored at the university's annual Academic Awards Day
ceremony (April 18) in the McNair Science Building’s Chapman
Auditorium.
Individual awards were given to students judged to have the most
promise of success in their respective academic programs.
Dr. Kenneth M. Autrey, Pee Dee Federal Savings Bank Professor of
English and 2009-10 J. Lorin Mason Distinguished Professor of the
Year, addressed the students before the presentations.
Among those honored were men's basketball player Mindaugas
Petreikis (Siauliai, Lithuania), who received the Economics Award;
baseball first baseman Preston Shuey (Charlotte, NC), who was
awarded the Finance Award; and baseball pitcher Joe Wagstaff
(Zebulon, N.C.), who received the General Business Administration
Award.
