Francis Marion University women's and men's basketball teams will host local Peach Belt Conference rival UNC Pembroke on Wednesday (Jan. 24) in the Smith University Center with the women's contest tipping-off at 5:30 p.m., and the men to follow at 7:30 p.m.
Admission is $8 for adults, $5 for students, and Francis Marion students will be admitted for free with an ID. The twinbill will be streamed live, online at https://www.youtube.com/user/FMUPatriots, courtesy of the Patriots Sports Network.
Before the women's contest, seniors Khai Chandler and Briana Burgins, along with junior Shaunice Fulmore will be recognized for reaching the 1000-career point plateau this season.
The Patriot women (11-5, 8-3) are led by Fulmore with 18.6 points per game, and Chandler with 18.3 ppg. Sophomore guard Abigail Bullock has added 12.9 ppg and 3.3 assists per game.
The Braves (6-9, 4-7) are led by senior forward Nyla Allen with 13.9 ppg and a team-leading 6.7 rebounds per game, while junior Alecia Hardy is averaging 8.3 ppg.
Francis Marion leads the all-time women's series 45-24, including three straight wins.
Senior 6-0 guard Detrek Browning is averaging 24.6 ppg for the Patriot men's squad – tops in the PBC and fifth-best in the NCAA Division II - while junior forward Brandon Parker has contributed 13.8 ppg this season. Junior Ryan Davis has added 11.5 ppg. FMU is 10-6 overall and 5-6 in the Peach Belt.
The PBC-leading and 21st ranked UNC Pembroke Braves (14-3, 10-1) have five players averaging double figures in points, led by 6-7 senior forward Nigel Grant with 15.7 ppg and 8.0 rpg. UNCP has won its last nine games.
In the men's series, the teams have split four games over the past two seasons with each winning on their home court twice.
